EFT MASTER CLASS: WORKING EXPERIENTIALLY WITH EMOTION

EFT Masterclass: Working Experientially With Emotion

led by Theresa Cohen, LCSW

DESCRIPTION:

One of the defining characteristics of EFT is working experientially with emotion. But what does that actually mean and how do we do it?  For many therapists, it can be overwhelming to work with highly reactive emotions, such as intense anger or stonewalling silence.  Yet when we learn how to assemble affect and honor the function of emotions, we can harness the power of present process interactions to help couples de-escalate, get curious about their cycle, and reshape their attachment bonds.

OBJECTIVES:

This Master Class is designed to increase knowledge and facilitate competence with working experientially with emotions during Stage 1 of an EFT couples therapy.

Trainees will:

  1. Increase understanding of how EFT conceptualizes emotion and utilizes emotion to achieve the Stage 1 goal of de-escalation.

  2. Learn how to work experientially with secondary emotion to co-regulate and help couples get a felt sense of their negative cycle.

  3. Develop competency with affect assembly in the here-and-now emotions of the therapy room.

  4. Increase awareness of Self-of-Therapist challenges evoked from working with emotions versus talking about emotions.
