Honoring Our Outgoing EFT Maine Board President
With deep gratitude, we thank Rebecca Clark, LMFT, for her leadership, generosity, and steady presence as she transitions from Board President of EFT Maine to Board Advisor for 2026.
Rebecca holds a unique place in Maine’s EFT community. She was the first clinician in the state to become certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy, later the first EFT Supervisor, and has since earned EFT certification for both individuals and families. While these accomplishments are significant, those who know Rebecca understand that what matters most to her is not the “firsts,” but the people—clinicians and clients alike—who benefit from this powerful, relational model.
Although EFT Maine officially formed during the uncertainty of the 2020 pandemic, its roots were planted years earlier. Around 2014, I was lucky to join a small peer-supervision group began meeting in the Portland area to talk through EFT cases. Rebecca, practicing in Newcastle, quickly became a central force. Even before completing her own certification, her dedication to EFT was unmistakable. She was constantly reading, training, and learning—always deepening her understanding—while also reaching out to other clinicians and inviting them into community.
As the group grew, so did Rebecca’s leadership. She helped build the peer supervision group’s website, welcomed new members, and quietly held the vision of something larger. By 2017, the community was strong enough to host its first Introduction to EFT training in Portland, a milestone that helped solidify both the group’s identity and its future.
When the pandemic arrived in 2020, Rebecca—along with Dr. Julie Quimby—kept EFT Maine alive and moving forward during a time when connection mattered more than ever. Together, they continued planning, pursued ICEEFT official community status, launched the updated website we still use today, and formed the inaugural EFT Maine Board inviting Andrea Medaris, PsyD along with this writer to join. Under Rebecca’s thoughtful and inclusive leadership, the Board fostered gatherings, social events, and high-quality trainings with EFT Trainers from across the country.
Rebecca’s love for EFT has always reached beyond state lines. She has remained connected with the wider New England EFT community and played a role in the growth of the New England EFT Community which has transformed into three separate centers, EFT Massachusetts, EFT Seacoast (NH), and EFT Maine. In 2024, she traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, to support their first EFT Externship—helping clinicians across Africa learn and bring this beautiful model to the couples and families they serve.
Because of Rebecca’s steady care and faithful volunteer leadership nurturing our community for over more than a decade, EFT Maine is strong, grounded, and ready for what’s next. As we prepare to host our first-ever EFT Externship in Maine in 2026, we do so knowing we would not be here without her time, vision, and unwavering commitment to this community.
While Rebecca is stepping back from the presidency for a well-earned breather, we are grateful that she will remain closely involved as Board Advisor—continuing to join calls and trainings, support board decisions, run intensives, mentor clinicians, and offer the gold-standard supervision so many of us have come to rely on.
These words capture only part of Rebecca’s impact. We know there are many stories, moments, and quiet acts of leadership that have shaped our individual practices and this community as a whole. We invite you to share your own reflections—on our facebook group, in a note, or in person at our next gathering.
Please join us in thanking Rebecca for the heart, wisdom, and care she has offered EFT Maine for more than a decade.
With gratitude,
The EFT Maine Board— Written by Carrie Louise Roberts, LCSW, Treasurer
